June 21 @ 7:30 pm

If you don’t know who Dom Flemons is, then tonight’s your night to find out. Grammy winner and 4-time Grammy nominee, he is a founder of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. In 2023, Dom Flemons released his highly anticipated solo album “Traveling Wildfire” on Smithsonian Folkways Label and it received a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Folk Album” and an International Acoustic Music Award. He has built a reputation on presenting 100 years of American roots music, but now, with Traveling Wildfire, his own songwriting prowess comes into the spotlight. Carefully selected from his personal repertoire, these original songs reveal his love of country, western, blues, Americana, bluegrass and folk music as they tell of true love, family legacy, survival, time travel, and the juxtaposition between light and dark. Traveling Wildfire weaves through the themes of hope and humor as it rises above the hard times with strength and lightheartedness. Still don’t know if you should get tickets? Here’s what others say about Dom:
“Ever since we met at the 2005 Ann Arbor Folk Festival I’ve seen how the roots music scene has been enriched more than most by the signature voice and playing of Dom Flemons. Right from the minute we met I found a kindred soul whose heart beat heavy with America’s song. That beat goes on with this beautiful new album as does Doms special journey on the scene, one he bolsters just by continuing to explore new terrains with each project. Anyone who’s serious about folk music better know Dom Flemons; if they don’t they probably aren’t.” – Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show)
“Dom has transformed himself in this splendid display of musical scope and depth.” – Steve Martin (Actor/Comedian)
“Singing love songs with the tenderness of Hank Williams Sr. and conjuring the spirits of Leonard Cohen, Charley Pride, and Johnny Cash, this record honors the influences of Dom Flemons while carrying us gently across pioneer trails seeded with wildflowers and rooted in the honest nature of Mississippi John Hurt. Song to song, through his musicianship and the warmth of his voice listeners can almost hear the crackle of a wildfire burning.” – Valerie June (GRAMMY Nominated Songwriter and Musician)
