SUMMARY:Arsentiy Kharitonov
DESCRIPTION:“Pianist and composer\, Russian-American Arsentiy Kharitonov\, proved to be the newest addition to the top ranks of this season’s artists\,” said The New York Observer\, citing his Carnegie Hall debut as one of the top six concerts of the season. Fanfare Magazine writes\, “Arsentiy Kharitonov’s sumptuous tone\, technical mastery\, broad dramatic range\, and elegant phrasing place him in the top ranks of keyboard players today. Above this and trumping most of the musical gymnasts of the day\, there is genuine poetry here\, the ring of truth\, and\, it seems to me\, a rare sincerity issuing from a deep place in the pianist’s heart.” Hailing from St. Petersburg\, abut a longtime resident of the US\,  he  is the first-prize winner of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition (US). After also winning the Rachmaninov Competition as a young musician in Russia\, he began his concert career with engagements throughout Europe and now\, the USA. The Opera House has been fortunate to host Arsentiy Kharitonov several times in past seasons and classical music fans are still talking about his performances at the Opera House. Don’t miss the chance to hear him this summer. Program just announced! \nBeethoven:          Polonaise op. 89 in C major (6 min) \nRachmaninoff:     Sonata No.2 (22 min) \nMedtner:              CanzonaSerenata (4 min) \nKharitonov :          Etudes #4\, #5\, Impromptu\, Rondo (10 min) \nSchumann:            Carnaval Op.9 (30 min) \nAdvance discounted tickets $30\, available from the box office beginning April 1. The group’s vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions\, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences. “Featuring button accordion\, guitar and fiddle\, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy\, which adds an earthy\, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.” — Boston Herald. SUMMARY:East Nash Grass
DESCRIPTION:How did East Nash Grass follow up their 2024 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) award for Best New Artist? By earning a nomination for Entertainer of the Year\, IBMA’s highest honor\, in 2025\, and celebrating fiddler Maddie Denton’s win as Fiddler of the Year. In short\, East Nash Grass have quickly established themselves as the fresh new face of Nashville’s storied bluegrass tradition\, a supergroup of rising stars: Grand Master Fiddle champion Denton is joined by banjo player Cory Walker (banjo player on the five-time nominated “Carter & Cleveland” album this year\, among numerous accolades)\, 2022 IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year Harry Clark\, and new guitar player Frank Rische. This is an all-star band that harkens back to the sort of talent collected in the original Blue Grass Boys and a powerhouse leader of the next generation in bluegrass excellence. \nRolling Stone had them among the “best of what we saw” at RockyGrass in 2025\, praising their “rowdy set of high-octane bluegrass numbers\,” and noting\, “The group itself is a rapidly-rising force on the national touring scene.” \nThe bluegrass titan Jerry Douglas says “Out of the Wilds of East Nashville comes this band of ringers\, each of them having played in nationally known high profile bluegrass bands. The sound they make when they play together rivals that of any of their main gigs. Who knows\, but I heard them as a finely tuned machine that could survive on its own. The National high profilers better hang on tight! East Nash Grass is on the move.” \nAdvance discounted tickets\, $25\, available beginning March 25. Regular tickets $30.

SUMMARY:Jerron Paxton & Dennis Lichtman
DESCRIPTION:. World-renowned multi-instrumentalists and vocalists. The duo were Artists-In-Residence at NYC’s Symphony Space for the 2024-25 season and have toured the US and internationally together since 2019. Smithsonian Folkways artist Paxton presents Black folk music from nearly all the idioms including stride piano jazz from New Orleans to New York; deep blues on guitar and harmonica; rural music from the beginnings of Black arrival in America played on fiddle and banjo; ragtime; and other turn-of-the-century-music that gives the full breadth of pre-WWII Black music without lecturing\, but rather inviting audiences to enjoy that music as it was given to him. Paxton transports his audiences not to a time\, but to a state of mind that allows them to enjoy and internalize Black folk music\, as has been the American experience for centuries. Lichtman is a world-traveling bandleader who is best known for running the famed trad-jazz jam sessions at Mona’s Bar in New York City. He is a masterful multi-instrumentalist (clarinet\, mandolin\, violin\, and more).  Paxton and Lichtman’s mutual love of the history\, stories\, and significance behind the music they play is apparent as they romp through energetic and engaging sets of acoustic blues\, ragtime\, Tin Pan Alley pop songs\, 1920s jazz\, twin fiddle hoe-downs\, and original songs and compositions. \nAdvance discounted tickets\, $25\, directly from the box office at 207-633-5159.
