SUMMARY:Karla Bonoff
DESCRIPTION:Karla’s legacy as a writer and her perseverance as a performer are best summed up in a Billboard Magazine review of Karla’s “All My Life” recording. “Long before Alanis and Jewel\, there was a breed of singer/songwriters whose earthly anthems of soul-searching\, heartache and joy touched souls in a way few can muster today.” In addition to her own albums\, Karla was a prolific songwriter\, including writing many of Linda Rondstadt’s biggest hits. She is touring with Nina Gerber on this return visit to the Opera House. \nAdvance discounted tickets are $35\, available March 18. Regular tickets are $40.

SUMMARY:Cantrip
DESCRIPTION:The name Cantrip is an Old Scots word meaning a charm\, magic spell or piece of mischief and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns in the band’s musical arrangements. Swirling border pipes\, raging fiddle\, thunderous guitar and three rich voices blend to create a sound energetic enough to tear the roof off. Echoes can be heard of trad music from the 1960s and 70s\, but the years have slowly infested their music with the sounds of funk\, metal\, bluegrass\, swing\, and even klezmer. Cantrip sprung from a local session in Edinburgh nearly twenty years ago. Their driving music immediately caught the attention of the masses\, and they were quickly signed to the Foot Stompin’ label. With their first album “Silver” (2001) in hand\, Cantrip made its way across the water to the United States\, where they have been received with roars and shouts (of enjoyment) in the decades since. Sponsored by a fan of the band! \nAdvance discounted tickets available beginning March 11. Advance tickets $25. Regular tickets $30.

Their albums feature everything from acoustic improv in an empty cathedral\, to live shows from the sweaty dance floors of dive bars\, to the sounds of a seven piece band rocking a festival on the banks of the Mississippi River. T Marie is an ambassador of Louisiana culture and history and tonight promises to be an uplifting and haunting taste of Louisiana past and present with some unforgettable stories along the way. The band tells us “pull on your shrimp boots and be prepared to dance.” Those without shrimp boots might grab their lobster boots\, or just a pair of flip flops for this outlandishly fun summer night at the Opera House. A perfect kick-off to the 4th of July weekend! \nAdvance discounted tickets $25\, available only directly from the box office at 207-633-5159. Regular tickets $30\, online and day of show.

SUMMARY:Arsentiy Kharitonov
DESCRIPTION:“Pianist and composer\, Russian-American Arsentiy Kharitonov\, proved to be the newest addition to the top ranks of this season’s artists\,” said The New York Observer\, citing his Carnegie Hall debut as one of the top six concerts of the season. After also winning the Rachmaninov Competition as a young musician in Russia\, he began his concert career with engagements throughout Europe and now\, the USA. SUMMARY:East Nash Grass
DESCRIPTION:The bluegrass titan Jerry Douglas says “Out of the Wilds of East Nashville comes this band of ringers\, each of them having played in nationally known high profile bluegrass bands. The sound they make when they play together rivals that of any of their main gigs. Who knows\, but I heard them as a finely tuned machine that could survive on its own. The National high profilers better hang on tight! East Nash Grass is on the move.” East Nash Grass exemplifies the best of what bluegrass has to offer—and were named the 2024 IBMA [International Bluegrass Music Association] New Artist of the Year.  Their breathtaking talent as singers\, instrumentalists\, and composers is worth discovering tonight. \nAdvance discounted tickets\, $25\, available beginning March 25. SUMMARY:Jerron Paxton & Dennis Lichtman
DESCRIPTION:. World-renowned multi-instrumentalists and vocalists. The duo were Artists-In-Residence at NYC’s Symphony Space for the 2024-25 season and have toured the US and internationally together since 2019. Smithsonian Folkways artist Paxton presents Black folk music from nearly all the idioms including stride piano jazz from New Orleans to New York; deep blues on guitar and harmonica; rural music from the beginnings of Black arrival in America played on fiddle and banjo; ragtime; and other turn-of-the-century-music that gives the full breadth of pre-WWII Black music without lecturing\, but rather inviting audiences to enjoy that music as it was given to him. Paxton transports his audiences not to a time\, but to a state of mind that allows them to enjoy and internalize Black folk music\, as has been the American experience for centuries. Lichtman is a world-traveling bandleader who is best known for running the famed trad-jazz jam sessions at Mona’s Bar in New York City. He is a masterful multi-instrumentalist (clarinet\, mandolin\, violin\, and more).  Paxton and Lichtman’s mutual love of the history\, stories\, and significance behind the music they play is apparent as they romp through energetic and engaging sets of acoustic blues\, ragtime\, Tin Pan Alley pop songs\, 1920s jazz\, twin fiddle hoe-downs\, and original songs and compositions. \nAdvance discounted tickets\, $25\, directly from the box office at 207-633-5159.
